		<description>Hedi Slimane California Song from Commonwealth Projects on Vimeo

Commonwealth Projects is pleased to present this documentation of Hedi Slimane’s California Song. The self-commissioned video project was filmed over the course of the exhibition’s opening week. It includes footage of the opening night, No Age’s rehearsal for their performance, billboards featuring Hedi’s photographs across LA, and the artwork in the show. The film includes the same original No Age soundtrack as featured in the installation at MOCA Pacific Design Center.

The concept for this issue was that success didn't happen to these influencers -- they created it.

The thirteen individuals profiled in this issue have distinguished themselves for decades with their vision, risk-taking and creativity. But what really unites them is their adaptability. They are not just game changers, they can change with the game. By finding new angles and hustling harder, they've managed to stay relevant -- and stay sharp -- in everything they do. We wanted to find out where this talent came from, so we've had them retrace the influences and philosophies that shaped them from the start.

For the interactive version of the print magazine, we wanted to create a distinctly different experience from reading the print magazine. My direction was to create original video content inspired by the raw interviews we collected. These were embedded within the respective articles in the Interactive Magazine.

You're the Dante on a wild cruise across an Arctic Africa. Spooks, haunting conga people mingle with synth rhomboids, battling for quiet supremacy of the settling dust. You tell them, this is where the Ice Queen Shi'ira once bathed before battling the world's first proper Succubus.

Voices and drums are the driving forth, you're dipping into different honeypots from different continents/decades, it's all so abstract but the grooves are textured and tangible...we have no idea where we are. We approach being able to pinpoint a sound just as it disappears again. builds are long, layers dense, Avey Tare's stepkids are hanging out somewhere making where the wild things are references.

Something isn't quite right ---

We're not sure if you're a benevolent skipper or not. While a tease of warmth distracts the passengers for a few minutes, It's not soon before everyone realizes you're dead set for a cosmic/seismic waterfall. the precipice approaches. Shit is gnar gnar. This is what a crescendo smells like, certainly plunging the pirogue and its contents to certain death...

[This ending is optional and declasse ps...when, the tiny boat is rescued by Falcor and the Family Stone. The relieved revelers give in to a dance party on Falcor's back as he transports everyone to a TV studio in Burbank, where they stand in front of a green screen as you dial through the homestretch hits a la the end to any cartoon ever.]</description>

		<description>

To introduce the urban implications of Scion's new small-frame iQ model, I was tasked to create an immersive 3D experience that would inform and appeal to their target market.

First, I generated scenarios that would feel fun to experience in three dimensions, yet provide opportunities for product messages. We imagined that the urban world that this car would inhabit should feel like a city of the future, a mash-up of many aesthetics living in harmony.

To fill out this world, I worked with some of the remarkable visual artists who had worked with Scion in the past. Their styles ranged from small-scale models to pen / ink to astral projections. For many of these artists, this was their first interaction with stereoscopic animation.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/135001/2009199/Screen shot 2011-09-15 at 2.40.32 PM.png" width="389" height="264" width_o="389" height_o="264" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/135001/2009199/Screen shot 2011-09-15 at 2.40.32 PM_o.png" data-mid="9987503"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

The final piece was screened with a dual projector system at Scion's Press Event Reveals. Viewers wore Scion-branded 3D glasses and enjoyed fun sensory enhancements -- a rumbling subwoofer, and a wind machine, and bubble generator.

The choice to create the world in black and white allowed us to make subtle highlights in color. However, as an added bonus, the black and white aesthetic allows this film to be presented in anaglyph (red / blue) without losing color information -- so a viewer with glasses can watch it at home and enjoy a satisfying 3D experience.

Note: anaglyph version not yet available
